If you have already decided that you want to study in Lower Saxony, we recommend that you get in touch with the International Office (IO or Akademisches Auslandsamt AAA) of your desired university. These departments take care of international students and will answer all your questions about the courses offered, registration dates, fees and admission requirements.

Most universities already offer online registration or in-person in the Inmatrikulations­ämter/Studierenden­sekretariate, but it is always good to be informed beforehand.


German language test for foreign applicants (DSH)

In order to enroll for your studies in Lower Saxony, please be aware that you might have to pass a language test to demonstrate your German skills. There are two different language proficiency examinations:

Support Programme for Students / Studienbegleitprogram Niedersachsen (STUBE)

This is a study programme to support students from Africa, Asia and Latin America who are studying at Lower Saxony universities and universities of applied sciences. It provides study support, training and workshops for your professional career and sponsorship for foreign students.

The dual vocational training system in Lower Saxony

Dual vocational training is a learning method that combines on-the-job training in a company and attendance at a vocational training academy generally one or two days a week.

These programmes are required for the German labour market and you will have a much stronger chance of finding a job quickly.
